Customer Insight: Custom video walls and dashboards

The Optimate team worked with Western Power to create custom video walls and dashboards for the Network Operations Centre (NOC) – the core of Western Powers grid management that supplies power to 2.5 million people in Western Australia.

The primary goal was to increase the situational awareness for the Operations team and provide them with more information about what was happening with the network at any time, as well creating a forward looking view based on outages, forecasted weather events and grid specific factors like reactive power projection. The initial phase lead to a broad range of additional, more advanced information requests from the NOC team, as well as stakeholders in other functional areas of Western Power. In the past 18 months, the solution has developed into a mature operational data hub that justified the focus of the Optimate team on scalability and flexibility in the architecture.

This project is a fantastic example of the work we do in Information & Insight. The objective of gathering, storing and enriching data is to help people to make better decisions. The data analytics and visualisation capability of Optimate helps to drive benefits by showing the right information, at the right time, and in the right context.

Using state of the art technology and frameworks like OSIsoft PI, Asset Framework and PI Vision in an agile and user-driven development process, we integrate insight into the operational process where it provides value – whether that’s a wall-to-wall Operations Centre screens or highly customised mobile displays.
